The accomodation were very modern decorated. But the kitchen was not so clean. There was no reception when we arrived. There were NO BREAKFAST, although I booked it on website with breakfast. It was written on website, that I have to pay in cash for the accomodation, when I check-out. But after I talked to the recptionist and the owner of the accomodation, they told me, that they just took my money from my credit card without any permission and discount cause of the missing breakfast.

- Codes for doors and main entrance haven't been changed in a long time, everybody could just walk in (it was visible on the number pad)
- Poor quality of mattresses and bedding, no extra cushion (not as stated on the website)

- Only minimal cleaning is done
- There is hardly any kitchenware to cook a meal
It was a nice hostel within walking distance to the old town and rather close to a big supermarket.
It felt a bit empty though as the staff was hardly ever there, and only a couple of guests stayed the first nights I was there.
Be sure to follow the directions to the hostel closely as there are only two very small signs, none of them at the gate, to indicate where Slowgate actually is.
The lamps seem to run out of power very quickly so be sure to ask for new bateries if they don't work.

It was midnight and when tried using the toilet I found no toilet paper and there is no staff present for help as well. Other issues were, the light in the capsule didn't work. Slowgate Hostel is a wonderful little hostel on Lakowa street in the lower town of Gdansk. We visited the old town on the last day in Gdansk and it seemed like a tourist trap! Slowgate Hostel was a bit off the beaten path but we realized we were lucky in that we spent the time around Polish people and for exdample every restaurant nearby was affordable, even more so than elsewhere in Gdansk. Vegan breakfast, scent of incense, a turtable with some vinyls, and a BATHTUB! Perfect!

I only spend one night here as I was passing through to Hel, but I would definitely recommend it! The owner is an absolutely lovely guy, who gave me tons of great tips. The location is a 5-10 minute walk from the centre and is in a nice quiet neighborhood, but with a few really nice restaurants just around the corner. Everything was clean and the facilities are great (especially loved the record player in the common room). The room had a locker, breakfast was good and shower was warm. Loved it!
